Census date is the last date to finalise enrolments and fees. It is important that you know the census dates and understand the academic and financial penalties. All census dates and other important dates are listed on the website.

TAFE students: A census date applies to all TAFE courses that are VET Student Loan eligible. TAFE students have a census for each individual unit, and the dates are displayed on your confirmation of enrolment and tax invoice. The census date for each unit is the payment due date, or the date your fees will defer to a VET Student Loan if you have successfully applied for a loan.

If a unit is dropped on or before the census date, a withdrawn will appear against the relevant unit/s on your enrolment record, and the tuition fee will not apply.  If a unit is dropped or withdrawn after the census date, you are still required to pay the fees for the individual unit/s.

Higher Education students: A census date applies to all Higher Education (HE) students. Higher Education students have one census date per semester; for Semester 1 this is 31 March and for Semester 2 this is 15 August. You can check all other semester census dates onlineThe census date is the deadline by which your enrolment and fees must be finalised for each semester. It is the last day that you can withdraw from a unit(s) without incurring academic or financial liability, or changes to your CSP or HECS-HELP eligibility.

If you drop a unit (class) from your enrolment on or before the census date the unit will be completely removed from your record, you will not be charged student contribution/tuition fees or have a grade applied.

If you drop a unit (class) from your enrolment after the census date the unit will remain on your record with a 'withdraw' grade and student contribution/tuition fees will be charged.

If you are a CSP or HELP assistance recipient and you drop a unit after the census date the unit will be deemed to be incomplete under the Job Ready Graduates and Supporting Rural and Remote Students and your eligibility may be impacted. Read more about changes to eligibility here.
