A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is a domestic higher education place subsided by the Australian Government.  Eligible domestic undergraduate students are automatically granted a CSP and some postgraduate programs may have CSP available (Check Fee information in Course Finder).

Students enrolled in a CSP are required to contribute towards the cost of their education and the Australian Government pays the balance of the cost. The amount paid by the student is known as the Student Contribution Amount or SCA. Eligible CSP students may seek assistance via one of the HELP loans to pay all or part of their student contribution amount.

To be eligible for a CSP you must be:

  • an Australian citizen AND will study in Australia at least one course from a program, or
  • an Australian permanent visa holder and will be resident in Australia for the duration of the course*, or
  • a New Zealand citizen and will be resident in Australia for the duration of your course*.

All students offered a CSP must complete a Request for Commonwealth Assistance and HECS-HELP form before enrolling in a new program for the first time. This is done by completing an online eCAF during the MyStudent Centre Checklist process and providing a Tax File Number before census date. If you change programs you will need to complete another eCAF.
