One credit point is the value of approximately ten (10) hours of learning activity by an average student directed at achieving the objectives of a course. This means that a 15 credit point subject is estimated to need 150 workload hours, including face-to-face class time. A learning activity may include pre-lecture reading, participation in lectures and tutorials, laboratory sessions, online learning activities, research, working on projects, essays or assignments, research, problem solving or consultation, preparation for tests and examinations and taking tests and examinations.
A semester coursework workload for an average student is approximately 600 hours for full-time study, or 60 credit points. This could be made up of subjects that have a 5, 10, 15, 30 or 60 credit point values.
