You may have seen that some result codes refer to an academic penalty. This is a penalty applied when you withdraw (or drop) a course late in the semester. For example, after the specified last date for withdrawal from a course without Academic Penalty.

If you have an academic penalty against a course, you will receive a fail grade for the course (LW) on your transcript. Your fail grade will also be counted when calculating your GPA, which will lower this for the semester, and over the program.
